This was a great trip with no dramas and a good solid work ethic.
We'll hopefully have the new 'photo gallery complete with video's on the website within the next week for everyone to see.

In the meantime we are working on the final prep for the AKA Competition at the weekend, so keep an eye on the forums with updates such as the weigh-in time etc.

October 2008
Preparation has now begun for the next AKA (Amateur Kickboxing Association) competition.
In the last competition Randy Savage aged 22 from Portreath fought for the British Middleweight and Commonwealth Full Contact Amateur IKF (International Kickboxing Federation) middleweight titles in Warrington, Cheshire, and beat the title(s) holder in the first round. We knew this would be a tough match as Richard Callaghan (Higher Level Gym) knocked out the previous challenger in the 2nd round (and he was from the famous K-Star Gym). But Randy brought his ‘A Game’ and TKO’d the former champ in the very first round – awesome.
The same event saw everyone's favourite WAKT fighter, Padstow's Matt Murt successfully defend the English Light Welterweight Title for the third time, also with a first round TKO.
In total WAKT had 9 students compete and came away with 6 wins and 3 losses, with 2 of the wins being titles (3 belts!).
WAKT is a forward thinking gym, and we are supporting the Amateur O.S.R. (Olympic Style Rules) format which has ‘Open Scoring’ as opposed to judges decisions. Like Amateur Boxing, this format looks after all competitors in a safe environment without the risk of serious injury. *Hint - Click the 'Read More' button for the full article.
Our students are all amateur (don't get paid to fight) lovers of the sport  have to go to work to earn a living or Uni etc. In an amateur/safe environment, they know that they can go to work the day after a competition without a high risk of being seriously injured or with a badly marked face etc.

The eventual aim of the A.K.A. and the I.K.F. is to one day see Amateur Kickboxing recognised and entered, as an Olympic Sport alongside its cousins, Olympic Amateur Boxing, and Olympic Amateur Taekwondo.

WAKT is the only A.K.A. registered gym in the South West area, and Senior Instructor Al Oakley is the South West UK Area Rep.
